Training & Support

Reading Partners has a Three-Part Training Program:

Online New Tutor Orientation (40 minutes)
To get started, you will participate in a new tutor orientation that will introduce you to the Reading Partners program, best teaching practices and our unique curriculum.  This orientation is intended to be a logistical overview of the organization and the work that you'll do as a tutor. After you fill out our volunteer interest form, you'll receive an email with next steps about how to complete the online orientation.

One-On-One Tutor Training (45 minutes)
On your first day of tutoring, you will be given additional one-on-one training while tutoring is in session.  With direction from your Site Coordiantor, a Reading Partners staff member, you'll go over the flow and components of a tutoring session and usually observe another volunteer tutoring a student for an entire session.

After these two trainings, you'll be ready to tutor!

Ongoing Tutor Enrichment Workshops (Monthly)
Throughout the year, Reading Partners offers workshops for tutors to further develop the art of tutoring.  These optional workshops include topics in the categories of the art of teaching reading, the art of working with children, and the art of motivation. We ask tutors to complete one of these one-hour enrichment workshops each semester.

Reading Partners Gives You Resources and Support to be an Effective Tutor:

Structured Curriculum
Once you start tutoring your student, you will be using a structured, easy-to-follow curriculum that will guide you and allow you to focus on your student's needs.  Read about the curriculum...

You'll also be supported by your Site Coordinator and Program Manager, experienced Reading Partners staff members, who will always be on hand to give you coaching and answer questions.
