Ashley grew up in Katy, TX and graduated with honors from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Early Childhood – 4th grade). After graduating, Ashley spent one and a half years teaching in a charter school and three years in a public school setting. During her teaching career, she had the opportunity to work with students from 2nd to 5th grade. While working as a 5th grade Special Education teacher, Ashley developed a passion for teaching reading and working with students one-on-one at their individual level. KAMILAH PERKINS
Program Coordinator
Kamilah Perkins, is a native of Chicago and recently transitioned to Dallas, TX. She has dedicated her career to inspiring students to identify their talents, recognize their potential, and equip them with resources to succeed in life. Kamilah, received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in English, Literature, a Masters degree in Education from Chicago State University and currently seeking a Doctoral degree in Higher Education Supervision at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Prior to Reading Partners, Kamilah taught secondary students and worked in the non-profit sector. Her expertise is in curriculum design, strategic and project management. In her free time, Kamilah has volunteered countless hours mentoring and working with community partnerships: Girl Scouts of America, Youth Ministries, The Urban League and Rainbow PUSH Coalition. JEREMY EXELL
AmeriCorps Specialist
Jeremy is a proud graduate of Michigan State University, where he received his BA in history in 2006. Following college, Jeremy joined AmeriCorps, serving with the AmeriCorps NCCC Atlantic Region campus, first as a Corps Member in 2008 then as a Team Leader in 2009. In 2010 he served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Martinsburg, WV where he worked with a local community organization. Following the completion of his VISTA year, Jeremy moved to DC where worked with AmeriCorps Alums managing member outreach. Ashley graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree from McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University in Atlanta, GA in May 2011. During college, she tutored and mentored children.
