Overview

Reading Partners began programming in Dallas in spring 2012.

Each on-campus reading center operates in a converted classroom or a library. Every reading center is staffed by a Reading Partners Site Coordinator to work with the school staff, understand student needs, and guide volunteer tutors.

In the 2011-12 school year in the Dallas region, Reading Partners will:

  • Offer one-on-one tutoring to 80 students

  • Recruit 100 active volunteer tutors

  • Serve 2 partner schools

ASHLEY HUFF
Program Coordinator

Ashley grew up in Katy, TX and graduated with honors from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Early Childhood – 4th grade). After graduating, Ashley spent one and a half years teaching in a charter school and three years in a public school setting. During her teaching career, she had the opportunity to work with students from 2nd to 5th grade. While working as a 5th grade Special Education teacher, Ashley developed a passion for teaching reading and working with students one-on-one at their individual level. KAMILAH PERKINS
Program Coordinator

Kamilah Perkins, is a native of Chicago and recently transitioned to Dallas, TX. She has dedicated her career to inspiring students to identify their talents, recognize their potential, and equip them with resources to succeed in life. Kamilah, received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in English, Literature, a Masters degree in Education from Chicago State University and currently seeking a Doctoral degree in Higher Education Supervision at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Prior to Reading Partners, Kamilah taught secondary students and worked in the non-profit sector. Her expertise is in curriculum design, strategic and project management. In her free time, Kamilah has volunteered countless hours mentoring and working with community partnerships: Girl Scouts of America, Youth Ministries, The Urban League and Rainbow PUSH Coalition.
